I noticed a lot of people saying normal heart rates don't exceed 100. My resting heart rate averages 110 and has for at least 40 years. My sister's has also. The doctor says to leave it be - it's normal for me.

A heart rate is measured by the number of beats per minute your blood is pumped around your body. It can be tested by taking your pulse, commonly done at the wrist. 72 beast a minute is average but higher or lower readings are common depending on the situation you are in. Eg: stressed out, sleeping, etc.

the rate in which your heart beats
the nurse check your pulse in two ways:
with the machine and usually with your wrist (though they sometimes use your neck).
They are counting the beats per minute but also monitoring the pressure.
Too much pressure, too many beats equal high blood pressure.
