My cholesterol is just a little bit high and I read that a glass of red wine now and then is good to bring up the good cholesterol numbers. I just want like half a glass every other day. Is it okay to drink just a little when taking insulin?

Welch's brand grape juice is just as good for this purpose. The best food for lowing cholesterol is oatmeal. One bowl of oatmeal every day can lower your total cholesterol. If you're on any other med, be cautious about consuming alcohol with it. Ask your pharmacist.

Hey Cassina :) Actually, I'm not really sure. Once a day isn't the same as once in a while. I didn't drink any alcohol while pregnant, which is what my doctor recommended. Occasional would be better than once a day. I consider occasional once or twice a month after 5 months. Not a whole glass, though. That way your baby is formed, for the most part, so it wont change development. Hopefully :/ But I didn't drink at all.

Well, I can't speak for your doctors, but mine do not have a problem with a little wine ... half a glass every other day sounds like it would fit in nicely. I do a glass a couple of times a week.

But, don't forget to take the wine into account when figuring your Humalog dose.

You will need to discuss this with the doctor(s) looking after you for your diabetes.

However, 1/2 glass of red wine alternate days sounds like a reasonable regime.

You know I don't believe some of you people. We are all like you we aren't doctors. Why would you take a strangers answer and wind up in trouble if you cannot drink wine. People do things that are strange when taking medicine. So go and ask your doctor who would know more about this then anyone. You also can ask your pharmacist.

Yikes - I wouldn't! Alcohol breaks down into sugar... I would ask your doc.

Actually it would be fine. Alcohol, surprsingly enough, can lower your BG levels.
