I am a Cardiac Monitor Technician; my job is to watch heart rates of hospitalized patients and report potentially dangerous arrhythmias. There is more than one kind of irregular heart beat; if you are really worried, you should return to your doctor and ask some questions to understand your situation more fully. Chances are that if he or she did not order additional tests or suggest a course of treatment, your condition is not overly serious. Still, for your peace of mind and general knowledge, I think that you should ask for more information.

You should also have been told that irregular rhythms are quite common and most are harmless. I'll bet you never even knew before you were told. Unless you were advised to take special precautions, don't worry about it. You belong to a club with a million members. It's just an interesting bit of trivia.
FYI: Irreg. HR is NOT the same thing as a murmur. A murmur is regurgitation and is due to a faulty valve. Unless this is severe and is causing you problems (and you would have been told that if this were the case), it is unlikely that you'll be "treated" for this very common condition. And why are some people bringing up valve regurge anyway?? That has nothing to do with your situation.

Lots of people live with an irregular heart beat. Just try to relax b/c you'll just make yourself sick. I had it for a while but I changed my diet by cutting back on fats and cholesterol rich foods and now it's back to normal. If you're really worried or concerned tell your family doctor you want a cardiac work up, but if you have any chest pain go to the ER right away.

RELAX! Do you know that a LOT of people have heart murmurs or irregular heart beats.
Unless your doctor sounded concerned that it was serious, YOU have nothing to worry about. Many people have irregular heart beats and don't know it.

Calm down. My son was diagnosed with Wolfe-Parkinson-White Syndrome when he was 1 month old. He's now 8, and going great! WPW is SVT - Supra Ventricular Tachycardia. It's controlled, along with many other kinds of irregular heartbeats with medications (My son has a Beta Blocker). Keep your chin up, relax... your doctor will prescribe a medication for you to keep it under control. Take care!

If it gets to be a problem you can always get a pacemaker, but lots of people live with an irregular heart beat.

Calm down a lot of people have them :)....if your Dr thinks its necessary they have drugs to try to correct it or other procedures....everything will be okay...You wont need a pace maker in less you have damage to your heart....talk to your Dr about medicine they use to try and correct this, this sounds scary but they can even shock your heart to try and correct it...You should be fine, If your Dr was worried he probably would of told you about these treatments.Don't let people on here scare you.

No prob, its more common than you think. They have tablets that control that. I hope you dont smoke because that can cause it and trigger it all the time. Smoking makes it dangerous.
