Natasha gave you a good background on hummus which is popular throughout the middle East.

I like to use hummus as a spread on all sorts of sandwiches (in place of mayo, mustard, etc.). It goes great with falafel and tahini. It's also a great dip for vegetables or crackers. It's really easy to make hummus and there's a lot of types of seasoning you can add (hot pepper, roasted pepper, pesto, garlic). it's versatile and healthy!

I use hummus as a dip for pita bread (or the pita chips), carrots, cucumbers, and whatever other vegetables I feel like. Just had some yesterday from a Lebanese restaurant...so good!

Hummus originated in the Mid-East, it is made from garbanzo beans (chickpeas) lemon juice, sesame paste, seasonings. It is wonderful on pita bread, or as a dip with cucumber slices, used as a sandwich spread, with crackers, etc. It tastes wonderful on celery sticks, too.

Slice open a pita, spread hummus on one side, spread pesto sauce on the other. Add a slice of swiss cheese. Pretty tasty sandwich. (You can also add fresh lettuce, but I rarely have that on hand.)

I believe hummus is greek, but don't quote me on that. I find it good on just about anything, put on a tortilla and make a wrap, and you can dip just about anything in it too. I like to dip baby potabellas in it, but celery is also good, I have also added a little olive oil to it to make it a little more "liquidy" and put on salad too.

A lot of people eat it with pita chips. It's really good. Try it! I don't know what type of food it is. Do a yahoo! search on it. All I know is that it is made with chickpeas.
