My mother in law is 78 and in hospital with pnuemonia, everything she eats goes down into her lungs rather than esophogas to the stomach. Anyone ever heard of such a condition? She doesn't want to be fed through a tube, how long can she be expected to live with this condition?

Doctors can take really good care of patients and it probably appears it is going down her lungs...they will put her on an I.V., and make sure it goes into her system...she can live a long time, once the infection is gone...be postitive with her, tell her you love her, and tell her to co-operate, so she can come home sooner...God bless, darling, and good luck

God's will! Known cases are many, for comparison: but the prayers are always for recovery, no predictions possible. Theoretically, one can live on for more than 21 days, without food intake!
