Immediately after infection, some people may develop mild, temporary flu-like symptoms or persistently swollen glands. Even if you look and feel healthy, you may be infected. The only way to know your HIV status for sure is to be tested for HIV antibodies-proteins the body produces in an effort to fight off infection. This usually requires a blood sample. If a person's blood has HIV antibodies, that means the person is infected.

HIV infection usually presents itself as symptoms of the flu or a severe cold within the first week after infection... and these symptoms can prevail for about 4 weeks. following this, symptoms disappear pretty much completely as the virus takes up residence in the lymph nodes and immune cells, and the afflicted person may experience no further symptoms for anything up to 10 years. then AIDS takes over and something as simple as a common cold might readily kill the patient

there are no symptoms of HIV.the virus once established in a person slowly takes over d immune system and starts using it for its own reproduction as time goes on d immune system becomes so weak dat it cannot defend d body against infections, this can go to such an extent that organisms which are usually harmless too become deadly and this overwhelming infection finally kills d patient. from d time of infection it will take atleast 10 to 15yrs for a person to become susceptible to infections.I hope this answers your question.

HIV has no symptoms. By the time you have AIDS and begin noticing symptoms, you don't have a very long time to live.
