If you just found out about being a diabetic let me suggest that you take a diabetes class. There will be classes at your local hospital through your Dr. You will learn everything that you need to know about diabetes and all about how food affects a diabetic. It's too complex to just mention 1 or 2 foods. Go to the class and you'll be glad that you did and feel confident about how to deal with being a diabetic. Good luck.

My mom has diabetes and she's a treasure trove of info. I don't know that there's a best food for diabetes, but there is an easy way to control your sugar through diet and exercise. Don't go over 5 servings of carbs per day. Read your labels. Don't worry about sugar grams, only look at carb grams because it includes sugars. 15 grams of carbs equals one serving, so if your label lists 30 grams of carbs, it counts as two servings. Aslo, extrememly important, exercise! Just move, it doesn't matter what you do and if you need to lose weight, you don't have to wait till you start dropping pounds to benifit. If your blood sugar is higher than it should be, go for a walk or do some gardening then check it again. I bet it will be down. I was amazed to find that out. My mom's sugar would be high, she'd go outside and trim the tree and recheck her blood an hour later and it would be down a lot. I hope this helps. Talk to your doctor often. Go to classes and get as much info as possible. Read, read, read! This is your life!

the best foods for diabetes is simply the same best foods for everyone else. whether you are a diabetic or not, our body needs the same nutrients. even non diabetics are advised not to eat much sugar and fats. still follow the old food pyramid, lots of vegetables and fruits (especially cucumber as this has the least calorie content), moderate amounts of carbohydrates (they turn into sugar), ample amounts of proteins from meats but more on fish and just very little fats and oil products. diabetic diets as listed in books and other articles are the same diet that everybody should take for a healthier body. diabetic diet is a misnomer. it has to be named.. the proper diet for everyone, unless you are a growing child for which you will be needing more fats and dairy products in your diet.

Persons with diabetes have the greatest success of a full reversal if they eat a very strict natural plant-based diet that includes lots of ripe, fresh, juicy, raw, organic fruits and veggies and eliminate sugary, highly processed foods, animal products (especially dairy products), transfatty acids, alcohol, cigarettes, white rice, white flour, coffee, black teas, corn, wheat, oats, and margerine. It would be useful to eat moderately of avocado, virgin coconut oil, hempseed and flax oil (not all in the same day-- alternate these high omega oils). Eat like this and shock the doctor with amazing results!

any food that has a low glycemic index and a high fibrous content can be a good diabetic food. that includes roots and tubers. Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, gourds.
Also, fenugreek seeds, and Indian Gooseberry taken about 10g daily help in lowering the glycemic index.
