Weight gain and shortness of breath can also point to undiagnosed hypothyroid. Docs will tend to only do the TSH and T4. Make sure you get the free T3. If it's low in the range, you're hypo...and that causes weight gain, shortness of breath, and many other symptoms.

Shortness of breath indicates your body is not receiving enough oxygen from the lungs...your lungs cannot keep up with the weight you've gained.
Could be many reasons for this...you certainly should get a physical checkup (including blood tests) to check for high-blood pressure, diabetes, etc.
