My mom was told one side of her neck is 100% blocked and the other side is partially blocked. I am very worried about her because she isn't emotionally or physically healthy and I doubt she could handle a surgery. What are her options? She is 62 years old.

Once a carotid artery is 100% closed, it's left alone. Trying to clean it out has a high risk of complications, such as stroke.

The important thing is to watch the other side. If it's less than 70% and she is not having symptoms from it, it bears watching.
Greater than 70% or symptomatic needs fixing.

She should see a boarded vascular surgeon. As with any surgery, you want the people that do the most of them.

In my experience as an interventional rad. tech, if the patient is well enough to undergo surgery(endarterectomy), that is usually the gold standard. However, I've seen plenty of patients come my way who for whatever medical reason couln't go through the operation. What we did for these folks was put a carotid stent in the artery, then put them on plavix and aspirin. All this is done through a small nick in the groin and very light sedation. So far, all the patients I've seen have had good results and have come out of the procedure just fine. Good luck.

They can clean out the arteries, like a Roto-rooter, if she can handle the surgery. The just go into the neck for it.
