You might want to consider a theme of some kind, like a luau or a murder mystery or an all pink party, using 16's! My teenagers (both now in college) had lots of fun parties and we always found a theme was good. Of course, sweet 16 is its own theme; you could have lots of sweet and adorable food, irresistible stuff. I think it also depends on the time of year and weather what you can do. Whatever you choose, be sure the invites are clever and fun--it starts the talking about the party and the anticipation!

I suggest that you dont spend the entire thing. Have a nice formal dinner somewhere with friends, family, or both--- dress up and enjoy it.
Then, bank the rest of the money OR buy a nice piece of jewelry to help you forever remember it.
Think about your 18th birthday. That's when you should really throw a huge celebration.

Option 1: I would say rent a limo and go out w/your friends to Dinner and Cruise the town!!
Option 2: Have a Party/Sleepover where you all would have a nice Party then once the people who aren't sleeping over leave do girly stuff like give each other facials, pedicures, etc. or hire a professional to come do everyones make-up, etc.

murder mystery party is a fun theme....or just invite your closest friends over for a movie night or go to the drive in or take them to dinner at a place like Bucca De Bepo (serves lots of food for little money).
Happy Birthday - and remember no matter what you do, as long as you are surrounded by the people you care about the most and who care about you, you will always have a great time and make great memories.

For my son's sixteenth, we rented the city golf course clubhouse for $100 and got a cheap D.J. Served pop and chips and cake and it cost about $300 total. The kids all danced and just hung out. He loved it...
Rent out a hotel room and have a small pool party.

Book a nail salon and let them get manicures and pedicures. Negotiate for a good price. Then off for pizza.
