Well, for starters you can keep track of every cigarette you smoke, that will make you more conscience of how much you actually smoke and you can start limiting yourself to a certain amount daily. I used Zyban and the patches and I started working out like a nut, about an hour on the elliptical every night, lol, but it helped. I also noticed I was eating more so I started eating sunflower seeds, chewing sugarless gum and drinking lots of water to get rid of the oral fixation, when you quit, make sure to have a bunch of fruit and other healthy snacks around, get rid of any junk food you may have around, I hope this helps.

Tips on quitting smoking :
1. Don't plan a definite date for stopping.
2. Decide on the spur of the moment. I'll stop now.
3. Keep an unopened packet of cigarettes in a drawer or cupboard. It helps, believe me.
4. Don't chew chewing gum or sweets as a substitute.
5. Just make up your mind that you are going to do this and prove to yourself that you are able to do so.
6. I did it 36 years ago and have never smoked since. Good luck!

I quit smoking by trading addictions. The day that I quit smoking I joined an exercies class. It made my body feel so good and my lungs burn so badly that I didn't want to smoke. I ended up becoming addicted to fitness which I believe is a better trade off. Another tip, I used to brush my teeth every time I wanted a smoke....after brushing my mouth felt clean and it lessened the craving.

I will be 5 years tobacco free this August.
I quit using a combination of nicotine patches and sugar-free chewing gum to keep my mouth occupied.
You should read as much as you can about emphysema, lung cancer, tuberculosis and other lung diseases caused or worsened by smoking. It WILL happen to you if you continue.
Don't go to places you normally smoked or where your friends still smoke (bars, etc.) until you feel confident you can not smoke there.
Have a positive attitude. It is not easy, but it CAN be done. Good luck!

First off the first 48 to 72 hours are the hardest. Becuase thats how long it takes for the nicotein to leave your body.
One thing here, since your hands are used to be busy, now you will have to give them something to do. Most use food, however when I stopped I gained about 30 lbs. So I would suggest using maybe toothpics.
The toughest part will be after meals and after drinking.
After the first week or 2, you have done the hard part now its time to keep it up.

Try cold turkey. Just stop smoking & when you get the urge to smoke, try munching on something healthy like carrot sticks or celery. Also try to keep your hands busy, so you will not miss holding a cigarette. Use visualization as a motivator. Picture your lungs & body getting healthier.

Go have a doctor tell you that you have a softball size cyst in your lung. Once the removal surgery is complete and they rip the chest tube out, the paid makes quitting is easy. If you want to avoid this, simply throw the pack away and quit. Avoid being in places that make you want to smoke and avoid people who are smoking.
