My father is 77 yrs old he had a minor stroke about 1 week ago and was hospitalised. He was released from hospital with only an asperin perscription. My question is that he is confused and disorientated to a slight degree and is unable to use his phone. His memory is good, he can dress himself and personal hygine is good and he has no verbal or physical impairment. No addition therapy or treatment has been advised. Soma advice would be appreciated.

You need to call his doctor and report the problems he is having and let them know he is having some residual from the stroke. They may want to see him again or recommend some therapy or testing. Call the doc to let them know he is having problems.

When someone has a stroke the residual effects are individual to the person. no it doesn't necessarilly mean another stroke will happen in the future but it could if preventative measures arn't taken. The doctor will have him on meds to help prevent another stroke. It sounds like your dad is recovering pretty good but it takes some time and he can go thru therapy to strengthen the areas that haven't come back to 100%, there may be areas affected that dont recover 100% but he will be able to accomodate so he will be able to do just about all if not everything he used to be able to do.

Confusion and disorientation could well pass over time, as he becomes accustomed to being home. A mild stroke and the ensuing treatment and environment often leave the older population confused and somewhat disoriented. Until he is reoriented and understands fully what happened to him, he should not be left alone.

He may have acquired a hospital infection - either chest or urinary. Get his doctor to listen to his chest and take an MSU sample. Some of the drugs he was given in the ER may also cause temporary confusion.
