Actually, pasta originated in CHINA. Long cut noodles.
Macaroni (extruded pasta) was created in italy.
Pizza originated in italy, and was a food for very poor people,
Until the queen became interested in the fad, had her cook make a few different pizzas for her so she could find out what all the hype was about.
Two were not accepted by her, but the third had cheese and tomatoes, and she loved it. It was named for her...pizza margherita, and became more famous from then on.

Pasta was originated from China century ago, and it's been mentioned in a few food TV shows. I am, however, not sure where pizza was originated from. All I know is I prefer the European think crust.

The Vikings made pizza long before the Neapolitans. The Vikings baked a flat bread with fish on it. (More than 1000 years ago.)
The invention of macaroni (what the Italians call pasta secca and which specifies dried--versus fresh, pasta fresca--pasta) has been attributed to the Etruscans, the Chinese, the Greeks, and the Romans, as well as the Arabs.

Pizza is Italian, though real pizza in Italy is often different to what you get in "pizzerias" in the rest of the word. Many types of pasta were developed independently and simultaneously in different parts of the world...China, the Arab countries, and the European noodle.

Pasta is throughout the world, everyone says Italy, which I can believe, and pizza people say is Chinese. Forget that though, Italy has turned it into something that is throughout the world today, they deserve the credit.
Ofcourse, me being how I am, Italians invented everything and started the world. :)

More than likely, China. They were certainly the first with pasta. Pizza was invented to use up leftovers.
