I end up spitting the pits out and was curious if there was another way.

Gosh, of course there is another way!
Just get yourself an olive pitter! It is cheap and really efficient, a fast way to pit them thus saving money and getting better quality and tasty olives! (Kalamata are my favourite)
Mine is also a garlic crusher, looks like a plier, put the garlic in the mini-sief or the olive in the olive holder, and press (the other side of the plier is doing the job).

There really is no other way if that is how they were served to you ... just spit them nicely into your hand, much like the way you would cover your mouth when you cough, and put them on the side of your dish. Everyone understands because they must do the same too!!! It is not safe to swallow an olive pit because pits are sharp on at least one end ... but, you know that, I'm sorry if that was insulting!

Eat and spit is the easiest.
You might try a knife - But as the Great Ray Mears would no doubt point out there is a balance between the energy you get from a food and the effort you put in to cooking and eating it.
You know Ray is just gonna eat, "hmmm, thats surprisingly tasty" then spit the stone out!!

Most of the time if you look at an olive they are split at one end or open a lil. If you pinch it at the other end the pit will pop out.

No...there really isn't, other than only eating olives that don't have pits.
