I have heard that eating about 15 or so almonds a day will lower it. I know people that swear it works and there are new scientific studies that support it. Any high fiber food like oatmeal should help too.

I eat totally healthy & love to exercise but both my parents have high cholesterol. So although I'm in my 30's, my cholesterol was way too high - and there isn't much in my lifestyle I can change to improve it. My doctor wanted me on Lipitor but instead I decided to try red wine. I drink a glass of red wine several nights a week. My cholesterol went down to normal.
My father ate oatmeal, took Lipitor, etc etc etc & still struggles with high cholesterol.
I think the wine is easier for me.

The expensive/easy way is just to get yourself on the medications. You will need blood tests periodically to make sure the pills are working and are not causing your liver any problems. The inexpensive/hard way is to get yourself a lifestyle change where you are eating a healthy veggie rich, no junk food, diet. Follow that up with lots of grueling exercise. Join a rugby team, chase down antelopes etc. Good luck.

Refrain from eating fried foods. Eat oatmeal (preferably steel-cut oats and old-fashioned), lots of garlic, daikon radishes, green vegetables, fruits and exercise every day. But do a little at a time...
