I recently went for some blood work and they the lab were supposed to fill in 7 tiny bottles as i had lots of tests. To my surprise, from the right hand no blood came out. Then when they took the other hand , only 2 bottles were filled and then suddenly blood stopped and they could not fill the other bottles.Just to let you know i was on a 12 hour fasting the night before as sugar fasting test was also one of the tests.

I asked the Dr and the Lab girl about the whole epsiode and they said it was ok as it happens sometimes and they were asking me if i had any water at all but i did not have water as i was asked to fast and was not sure if i can have water or not.....Anyways i am going for the remainder of the test again with fasting but will have water this time....Pls advise if this thing was ok for the blood to not come out ...Should i be worried?????Pls let me know...

some pple s veins give blood better than some and sometimes it is more to do with the technique of the dr/nurse taking the blood....the fact that u were fast and were possibly a bit dehydrated could have contributed too.....but i would say nothing to worry abt at all...

Do not worry. The nurse probably missed the vein that she was attempting to hit in the right hand. The veins of the hands are not the best bleeders, when one needs a lot of blood, it is better to get it from the anticubital area (bend of the arm).

Its pretty normal.
The vein will collapse at some point with the needle in there-- its just happened to you sooner that you would have liked.
It also happens more easily when you are dehydrated.

Nothing to worry about.
Good luck on the rest of yours tests!

I once had two nurses, one on either side of me trying to hit a good vein for a blood test.My veins are very hard to deal with.
One of the nurses said " Cammie, you have been misdiagnosed. You cannot have diabetes. Diabetes is Hi blood sugar and you don't have any blood ! "
Sometimes it takes a while.
You are normal!

DRINK UP! Drinking water will increase the volume of your blood and it will be an easier stick. Could be your technician didn't know what he/she was doing also. You can ask for a "butterfly" needle which are easier to insert and more comfy for you. Water is definitely OK! Godloveya.

It happens. You might have been dehydrated. Try to drink plenty of plain water before your next test. Even plain black coffee won't hurt, as long as you don't have sugar or creamer.
