bacteria. Yes using a dirty humidifier would as it contains bacteria.

Bacteria getting into your lungs causes respiratpry infection. And yes a humidifer that is a cold mist would possibly cause it moreso than the hot mist ones,because the hot mist will kill more of the germs in the water and the cold will not. Dirty humidifiers would definitly have bacteria in them and so yes they could cause infection too.
