For example, Innuit Greenlanders, who historically have had limited access to fruits and vegetables, have the worst longevity statistics in North America. Research from the past and present shows that they die on average about 10 years younger and have a higher rate of cancer that the overall Canadian population

Similar statistics are available for the high meat-consuming Maasai in Kenya. They eat a diet high in wild hunted meats and have the worst life expectancy in the modern world. Life expectancy is 45 years for women and 42 years for men. African researchers report that historically Maasai rarely lived beyond age 60. Adult mortality figures on the Kenyan Maasai show that they have a 50% chance of dying before the age of 59.2
We now know that greatly increasing the consumption of vegetables, legumes, fruits, and raw nuts and seeds (and greatly decreasing the consumption of animal products) offers profound increased longevity potential, due in large part to the broad symphony of life-extending phytochemical nutrients that a vegetable-based diet contains. By taking advantage of the year-round availability of high-quality plant foods, we have a unique opportunity to live both healthier and longer than ever before in human history.

I usually eat every 2-3 hours, not because I’m hungry but it helps your metabolism and absorption of protein, Eat foods with some olive oil added to it and eat foods with a fai amount of protein (it is satisfying)

I became a vegan because firstly I am concerned about my health. Investigating health issues I quickly learned that there are numerous illnesses caused by meat eating.

Secondly, I saw a video call "meet your meat" and another called "Earthlings" that really educated me on the cruelties that animals endure and how the whole process of getting meat from the farm is really sick and disgusting.

I've said this before and I will say
it again. THEY TREAT DAIRY
COWS , BROILER HENS,
LAYER HENS, SOWS, and
STURGEON Like Whores
and then gut and slaughter
them. No evolutionized male
having been exposed to the
truth should ignore these
things and gorge on carrion.

Also as a person of various
ethnicities, I would feel like a pure
hypocrit condemning slavery
lynchings, and holocausts
if I ignored these
very practices in slaughter-
houses and engaged in such
commerce.

We are no longer vikings,
celts, wild indians, spear
chuckers, huns, mongolian
nomads or bushmen
so why do we still
live in age of barbarism?

I have read that Eskimos have crippling osteoperosis starting at age 40. Who knows what's true anymore. I just know I don't want to gut and animal for supper so I won't make anyone else do it for me. If you want to eat veg and feel filled up you probably need to have more whole grains like brown rice, barley and oatmeal. Whole wheat bread doesn't require enough chewing to let your brain know you've eaten.

Ethics is the main reason for me.The meat production is horrible. The idea that animals are raised at unnaturally fast rates just to be eaten is depressing to me. It also involves the environment. Half of the water in the US is used for the animals we kill for meat. Forests are cut down to make room for slaughter houses and room to raise cows and other meat providing animals.

Health also a big factor. Meat adds so much fat to the diet. Meat alternatives are so much healthier and higher in fiber and they appeal to my taste more.

Plus, I just really like fruits and vegetables. Hope this filled a few gaps.

I ♥ animals!
These days, people think that they just kill the animals, and that's it. Well everybody who thinks that is WRONG!
For example, chickens are probably good to eat for all those meat-eaters, but do you even know how that chicken gets on your plate?
The workers put FIVE chickens in a TINY cage!
Then, they are sent on a convetor belt, and BAM, they just had their life ended, so you can have dinner.
Or, pigs.
First, the farmers feed the pig a lot,(poor pig, he doesn't know the farmer is doing this for his food) and when they cannot eat no more, the pigs life has ended so you can enjoy your meal.
Shame on you evil people! :():():

Well I am vegetarian for a few reasons.
1. I dont really like meat
2. I dont agree with the way they treat animals in the factory farms
3. I dont like that animals are pumped full of hormones and other meds
4. I am not convined that humans are supposed to eat meat as a primary source of nutrition.

So there are my main reasons.....

2007-01-21 22:21:58 · answer #8 · answered by Schandelle 2 · 3 1

I am a vegetarian, not because I don't like meat or because of health reasons. I am one, because of the ethics behind it. The way animals are treated now-a-days in slaughterhouses, chicken farms, and such are horrible. I choose not to have any more animals suffer than they already do that is why I refuse to eat any animals for the rest of my life.

All of these people that cite Ethics as there reason for not eating meat are FOOLS! yes, FOOLS!

They will give over their bleeding hearts for the poor treatment of animals, and yet, they themselves are subjected to the same poor treatment. Why do they not realize that the plight of the mistreated cow is only a smoke screen to blind them from the real issues.

Do you think humans were meant to work 40 hour work weeks in monotonous jobs?

Do you think humans were meant to be surrounded by concrete, steel, and glass instead of trees, grass, and animals?

Do you think humans were meant to consume this insane quantity of additives and preservatives?

Do you think humans were meant to be surrounding with all of this plastic and pestacides?

Do you think humans (at least as is the case for us Americans) were meant to live so far separated from our tribes and clans?

The list goes on, but keep it up Vegetarians, keep using the ethical arguement for your reason to not in meat when you subject yourself to far worse. I am a vegetatian 95% of the time, because I want to be, and if you want a real reason, then I am a vegetarian because it is a challenge, and life should be about challenges and self improvement.
