This sure helps me go to sleep without coughing all night. I have done this several times with no problems. I cut the cough in half so it won't be in my mouth too long. I have tried cough medicine but the type I tried that loosens phlegm makes my throut itch more and I get more coughing. The other type of cough medicine that surpresses cough I don't think is safe when my throut is full of phlegm. I have tried gaggling with salt water before bed and that keeps the throut from itching for a little while but not long enough for me to go to sleep.

there is the possibility of choking and of the decay of your teeth, but from someone that has done it many of times, I think it is worth it. I too have a hard time falling asleep when I have a cold, and if it comes down to not sleeping or sleeping with a cough drop, I'll take the Halls and the risks!

Yes, you can choke on that cough drop even if it is small. You should try vicks vapor rub or see and allergist if you are having serious problems with flem as it can be a problem. Just this morning I began to choke on my flem, but I didnt wake up immediatly because in my dream I was also choking, it was quite scary. I would definatly make sure you resolve this problem becuase it can be a real danger. I use vicks vapor rub in combination with zyrtec.

As the others have said the cough drop is a definite choking hazard and also note that regular use will rot your teeth as it is sitting on your tooth enamel overnight and this is another harmful thing to do.

I think finishing the cough drop before you go to bed is better. Or try liquid cough suppressant at bedtime. If your throat is itching, sounds like you have allergies. Sudafed is good for those, but in the mornings, not at bedtime.

Well, you might choke on it. Why don't you try using Vicks vapo-rub, or else purchase a humidifier which can moisten the air in your bedroom thus helping dry throat, something which often causes coughing.

I've never done it w/ a cough drop, but I did once choke on a warhead. It was bad, I couldn't breathe at all. Don't do it.
