I listen before and after extubation. Someone told me it's useless to listen beforehand because you can't hear it with the ETT in place. I say if you deflate the cuff you could hear stridor. Any opinions

Stridor is caused by large airway such as the trachea and pharynx swelling. This happens when the tube is removed. If you listen to the side of the throat with the tube deflated you are going to hear the air escaping around the tube which could be high pitch and sound like stridor but it is not.

I also think it is useless to listen beforehand. I don't think you can tell if it is true stridor until you extubate.

That sounds reasonable to me. It certainly can't hurt to be extra thorough.
