They are not bananas, they are called plantains and they are cousins of the banana.
Plantains are a staple food in the tropical regions of the world, treated in much the same way as potatoes and with a similar neutral flavor and texture when unripe.

It is assumed that the Portuguese Franciscan friars were responsible for the introduction of plantains to the Caribbean islands and other parts of the Americas

Plantains are really good when fried.

Not sure about Chinese style fried bananas... but in Singapore there is a popular snack known as "goreng pisang" which is whole banana coated in batter and deep fried. The name suggests of Malay origin.

Fried bananas are a tradition in other countries too, such as Thailand. In El Salvador we deep fry plantations(they look like bananas)
