That sounds pretty serious to me. She might have some underlying heart condition or blood condition that is causing this. Is she having heart palpatations? Where her heart beats irregularly all over the place? Does it skip beats? If it does that can be very serious.
I suggest you have her looked at.
Does she drink those AWFUL drinks loaded in caffeine?
Those pop companies should be sued for selling those to minors. Children are getting addicted to caffeine. There's something like the equivalent of 5 cups of coffee in some of those drinks. They're usually called "energy drinks" and don't ever let your kids drink those. They just need something else to hook kids onto these days since most are moving away from pop.
Caffeine can cause irregular heartbeats. Caffeine is in tea/coffee and SODAS, all sodas unless they say caffeine free.
So cut these horrid drinks out (read the label it should say if there is caffeine) and see if that helps (people experience bad headaches from the withdrawal of caffeine too but that is only temporary) but still I wouldn't wait and get her to the doc for a blood test and let him listen to her heart and see what he says.

Some people are born with an extra electrical pathway in their heart that can cause rapid, irregular heartbeats from time to time.
They often come out during adolescence. Most are harmless, but annoying. A cardiologist can help with a diagnosis.
You can find more information at the Heart Rhythm Society webpage.

I am 30 year old and was diagnosed with supraventriculartachycardia when I was 21. I had a pacemaker implanted a month after I turned 26 and 6 weeks after I had my first child. I was also diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome and atrial fibrilation. My suggestion to you is to make an appointment with a cardiologist or better yet a electrophysiologist to look at your granddaughter. It could be something as simple as an irregular heartbeat controlled by beta blockers but could be something more serious needing more extensive treatment. Please from someone who didnt take it seriously. Seek some sort of medical opinion. Good luck!

She may have an arryhthmia.
Arrhythmias are disorders of the regular rhythmic beating of the heart. They're common — as many as 2.2 million Americans are living with atrial fibrillation (one type of rhythm problem). Arrhythmias can occur in a healthy heart and be of minimal consequence. They also may indicate a serious problem and lead to heart disease, stroke or sudden cardiac death.
She should go have herself checked by a doctor. They might need to do some tests and to find out the etiology of the irregular beats. It may be benign but, it is better safe than sorry.

Do she has anxiety. Anxiety cause fast heart rate. And because she probably on med.s for her fast heart rate ,I don't know if she's taking meds for it,but if she is. That's probably what's causing her slow heart rate. She might don't need anything for her heart. And if the doctors than check her out and said, there's nothing wrong.Probably cuz she has anxiety.

It's probably anxiety. Tell her to take a deep breath and relax and meditate and her heart will go back to a normal rhythm. She should get it check out by a doctor but more than likely it's benign. Sometimes my thinking too much about heart irregularies you "cause" them from the anxiety so she should get peace of mind from a doctor and try relaxation exercises.

better go to a pediatric cardiologist if you would like a detailed discussion about the condition. daughter might have to have ECG, 2d echo, chest xrays, thyroid function tests done. ask for daughter's history: when the irregular heartbeat started? what are the associated symptoms (eg chest pains, easy fatigability, weakness, headaches, syncope/fainting spells); past and current medication/surgery/medical illness

Normal resting heart rate for a 15y/o is 60-100, max heart rate is 123-164. This web site give great information read it, it also explains how you and your daughter can properly take her pulse during these questionable times.

it could beat fast if she is active and a lot and does other things that might cause her heart to beat fast. when it is not beating fast it could really just be at normal speed and normal speed could be slow for her

Hi,
Have her seen by a doctor, she could be experiencing Anxiety Attacks, but it is better to know for sure what is going on, and they are the best ones to tell you.
