Hi, I have had a bad cold for the past month. Got it from my 2 year old nephew! Anyways, it started with stuffy nose and a huge head cold, a couple of weeks ago it went down to my chest and throat. Now I am having huge coughing fits (I cough and cough. Can't catch my breath and it's hard to relieve coughing. even with a drink or cough lozenges). Anyways, yesterday I started bringing up clear phlegm. I know my chest is just trying to get rid of it. But ... what color of phlegm is a bad color to have (like pneumonia).

Usually yellowish, tan or greenish. I think you should check with your doctor next week just in case. I had pneumonia for weeks before I was diagnosed, and was coughing up clear all the time.

Normally if a Cold is present it will be a sorta yellowish green or even a rusty color in the present of Pneumonia. I have bad allergys and my phlegm is clear also.. You should go to the doctor and rule out Pneumonia. If its Allergys he will prescribe something like Claritin and Flonaise. My allergys are year round and I have to take/use these daily..Get Well Soon..

clear is a good color means that you have no infection in your lungs . when you have a upper (meaning sinus) or lower (meaning lungs) respiratory infection it will be yellow or green . It will have some kinda of color to it . the darker the color the more sever the infection is . I would just go get some Robitussin . If you feel like you still need to bring stuff up you could get the musinex . It will help to . I know you have to have sore throat with all of this so mix 1tsp honey with 1 tbs lemon juice and sip it . Good luck .

Severe asthmatic .

Yellow or dark yellow means you have a bacterial infections. A greenish sputum sample means it is a viral infection. Pneumonia can be both. If you are worried, see a physician before it get worse. Good luck.

Eat lots of oranges, take 1000 mg Vitamin C, see a doctor to make sure it's not pnuemonia. Have a steamer in your bedroom at night. Use a vapo rub around your neck and nose. Drink lots of fluids and make home made chicken soup with lots of fresh vegetables!
