When I became a vegetarian I had many positive effects as far as health goes. Some of them were no more allergies and my asthma went away. All around, I had more energy too. I don't care what other people do, but I'll take the health benefits of being a vegetarian (actually vegan for the last few years) any day of the week.

I became a vegan because of animal compassion reason as well as for my health. I am strongly against factory farming too. I do not believe in a God so I do not agree with the bible saying animals were put on earth to be food. My beliefs are life is life there is no difference between the life of a man and the life of a pig.

Some vegetarians do not eat meat for health reasons (some people can't handle unnatural, processed foods) and some do it because they don't like the killing of animals. And why should anyone let the bible dictate what you can and cannot eat? What you decide to eat is a personal choice and should be left at that. I have vegetarian friends and I don't try to persuade them to eat meat and they don't try to persuade me to go veggie. It's called respect.

Lots of vegetarians are not christain. Many atheists find veg appealing because they believe in science and science tells them that a veg diet is good 4 u. Also, Hindus believe that animals are sacred. Many small religions recommend veg. SO we aren't mostly christain. So we don't all believe that. Also, it doesn't hurt to not kill beings. In the Bible and the law there's lots of stuff against killing others. "Thou shall not kill" is a quote from the Bible. Also, we want to be skinny and help the environment.

For health reasons and also because the practices in slaughterhouses and or at farms often are very cruel and inhumane. Think about pregnant pigs in areas so small they can't turn around and having to stand/sit in their own feces.
Go read up on how badly animals raised for feed are treated and then you won't have to ask!!

The Bible also says "thou shall not kill". I don't want an innocent animal to live a life of pain and suffering only to be murdered for my dinner.

Not everyone believes in the bible so that isn't very relevant. I became a vegetarian because I believe animals shouldn't be killed for our consumption.

And why is the bible relevant at all? I'm not letting a book written 2000 years ago dictate or suggest what I eat. And besides, there are other religions that say the exact opposite - that we should not eat animals.

Genesis 1:29-30
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food: and to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, [I have given] every green herb for food: and it was so.

Isaiah 66:3
He that killeth an ox is as he that slayeth a man.

Ecclesiastes 3:19
For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.

Proverbs 12:10
A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast.

Genesis 9:9-11
And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you. Of all that go out of the ark, even every beast of the earth. And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of the flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

No it doesn't. Even Jesus was a vegetarian.

I remember something about God getting all pissed off at some guy for eating meat and he's all "you like corpses so much? Here, have some," and showered him with rotting dead animals. Mind you, I read this when I was seven or something when this was read to me, so I probably didn't retell it very well. All the same, it really creeped me out a lot.
