Nasty stuff. Some people are highly allergic to it. It should definitly be limited if not avoided completely if you are expecting a baby.

Whew, baby, I do. When I eat it I get awful headaches, an all-over crampy feeling, ringing in my ears and feel disoriented. The worst is the cramps in my upper belly area -- bad -- like I've done 7.2 gazillion sit-ups. The first time I got it, when I was a young teenager, I honestly thought I was dying. Since then I've avoided it like the plague. The doctor said it wasn't actually an allergic reaction -- it's something called "Chinese Kitchen Syndrome". A lot of people suffer from it. Nasty stuff.

I have known of the dangers for a long time, so that means the companies putting it into our food have known even longer. Shame on them and what they do for money. I personally do not buy foods with MSG.

Monosodium Glutamate or MSG is a man-made flavor enhancer. It is now recognized by many in the medical profession as an excitotoxin – a type of drug which damages brain cells.

Please see the web pages for more details on Monosodium glutamate (Ajinomoto) and Sodium in diet. I understood only recently that both are one and the same thing.
For individuals who are sodium-sensitive, an increased intake of sodium may contribute to high blood pressure. Therefore, people with high blood pressure may be advised to reduce sodium intake; all patients with high blood pressure should discuss this issue with their doctor. Reducing sodium can also reduce the side effects from certain prescription medications.
In addition, sodium may lead to fluid retention in patients with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, or kidney disease. These patients should be on strict sodium-restricted diets as prescribed by their doctor.

MSG is but one of many things we use that is harmful to our health. We need to be concerned with aspartame, fluoride, chlorine and other chemicals that we ingest.
Most are not worried about their health until faced with a health crisis. If we would be as concerned about prevention as we are about cure, we would all be allot healthier.

I do, I realize the dangers of artificial sweeteners, I realize the dangers of commercialized dairy, I realize the dangers of hormones in our foods, and you know what?
Our family eats healthy, we have plenty of whole foods, and our rule is if god made it eat it; if man made it read it.
