We might have to remove the entire lung due to cancer. We are not sure how living might be. We are hoping for removal of just one lobe but we cant seeem to shrink the tumor enough. We did 3 hits of chemo ( whitch were ineffective) and we are now looking at 6 weeks of radiation plus 3 more hits of different chemo. Anybody know of someone living with one lung?

She should be fine. My sister had this done when she was 56 and she is still going strong. The only thing that bothered her was the heat. She felt better and could breath better when it was hot out if she got in the pool or the shower. The heat and extreme cold is the only thing that bothered her. When it is cold out, have her wear a scarf and cover her mouth with it.

If her remaining lung is in good condition she should have a pretty normal life. Naturally she will get short of breath at times due to only having half the lung volume now. My uncle has been living productively for 7 years with only one lung. Lung cancer is known to metastasize (spread) so be thankful that there is still one functional lung.

I had a neighbor who did quite well with only one lung. He was in his late 50's when the lung was removed and in reasonably good health otherwise. He was able to resume his normal routine after his healing period.

As quality as you want it to be. Know realistic expectations , listen to your doctors instructions and good luck.

It will be ok, if she takes it easy, and if there is nothing else major wrong with her.
