I know what you're talking about.
The pulmonary vein and arteries are the only ones that buck the egenral "rule" about arteries carrying blood away from the heart and viens to the heart.
A more accurate description would be that arteries carry oxygenated blood and veins carry deoxygenated blood. Then you have the arteries and veins doing what they should do :D

The pulmonary artery is an artery as it has a thicker wall than the pulmonary vein. The pressure in the PArtery is about 30 mm Hg while it is much less (a few mm Hg ) in the P veins.
BUT the P Artery carries DeOxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs--a different type of blood compared with that in other arteries of the body.
The Pulmonary vein is carrying Oxygenated blood from the lungs to the Left atrium of the heart.
Hope this answers your question.

The pulmonary artery takes blood from the heart to the lungs. At this point, the blood is not oxygenated...therefore, some think it to be a vein. On the return trip to the heart, the blood is oxygenated and it travels through the pulmonary vein. Since the blood has oxygen in it at this time, some consider it an artery.
In most cases, blood travels through arteries away from the heart with oxygen. On the return trip to the heart (withoiut blood), it travels through veins.

well, histologically the pulmonary artery has the characteristics of an artery and the pulmonary vein has the characteristics of a vein..
but what makes us consider pulmonary artery as a vein is that
it carries deoxygenated blood (in contrary to the other arteries), while the pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood to the left atrium then to the left ventricle to be pumped to the whole body..

Because Pulmonary artery does the work of Veins i.e Carry De-oxygenated blood, While Pulmonary Vein is a Artery coz it carries oxygenated Blood.
But this doesnt make pulmonary artery a vein. This Just show how you luck mere basic knowledge. Did you learn this things in church or in school?Got that?
Please vote my answer Best.I mean its ur wish to do that.

The schoolbook trick I learned was that veins (veIN) goes INto the heart and Arteries go Away from the heart.
In this case, it must be the other way around.
This is an educated guess, so you should check it in your book.
