when you cough, you strain your muscles. Thats the pain you feel. Its like the pain when you work out to much. Tylenol will help and also keep your fever down. Take all your antibiotics, even after you feel better. If you stop taking them, you may feel fine, but the infection may not be 100% gone and it will come back ten times worse and antibiotics will have a harder time beating it.
Make sure you exercise by breathing fully in and out a few times and hour and cough up as much secretions as possible. Try not to lay around either, as that can lead to pnemonia.

Your stomach probably hurts too from all the coughing.. yes, it is normal to feel your ribs hurting.. coughing takes a lot out of you... excuse the pun..Not to mention that you have an upper respiratory infection, and infections cause pain and discomfort as well. Hope you feel well soon.. :)

Well, if he gave you antibiotics, then take them. You probably have an infection in your bronchial tubes or lungs, and yeah, it can be painful.
