OK I am going to a baby shower for a girl at my work. I work at a Restaurant, and we are just all meeting there. The problem is, I work all day Sunday and probably won't have time to go home before the shower - - I may still be working when we have the shower! But I need some ideas for some quick and easy food that I can either make the night before, or maybe on my 30 min. break I get between shifts. I want something cute too, and unique -- I love to cook! I thought about maybe a chili or something, but I don't think I will have the time for all of that, and I think it's too much prep the night before! HELP! It's Sunday!!

If you're thinking about chili, how about chili bean dip. Spread cream cheese in glass pie plate, cover with canned chili with beans and top with cheddar cheese (shredded). That's it! Just nuke until hot and bubbly and serve with *scoop* type tortilla chips.

You can def make some fancy looking finger sandwiches, using all types of meats & cheeses. You could prepare a spinich dip w/ tortillas, individual shrimp cocktails (use baby shrimp), or make a seafood salad. How about a lasagna (you can prepare that the night before as well)- and its effective in feeding at leat 15 people. And how about some simple veie & fruits platters. Or some chicken kabos. You could set them the night before, and come home on your break let them cook, and schedule someone to come by and take them out after about 25 minutes. Good Luck!!!!

Halloween is such a great time for a baby shower! Are you having all the guests come in costume? Here are some ideas for food: 1. Fruit punch with an ice ring. In the ice ring, freeze plastic bats and such. Make the punch out of 1 can frozen margarita mix, 1 can frozen lemonade, 1 can frozen orange juice, 2 litres 7-UP or Gingerale and 4 bottles flavored sparkling water. 2. Olive tampenade on puff pastry with goat cheese. Buy puff pastry sheets and roll into a rectangle. Spread with premade black olive tampenade and sprinkle with crumbled goat cheese. Roll up jelly roll style, cut into 1/4 inch slices and bake until puffed and golden. 3. Lil Smokies in crescent rolls served with hot sweet mustard. Cut unbaked Pillsbury Crescent rolls in half to make equal halves and place a smokie in the center. Roll up and bake until golden and puffed. 4. Mini meatballs in marinara sauce in a sourdough breadbowl. 5. Vegetable platter with ranch dressing 6. Artichoke and Crab dip with blue corn tortilla chips 7. Olive medly 8. Platter of cured meats such as sopresatta, salami, and prosciutto. 9. Cheese platter with Manchenga, Mushroom Brie, Irish Cheddar, Fontina served with crackers and crisp green seedless grapes. 10. Dessert Platter with brownie bites, macaroons, lemon tarts.

Why can't you make Chili? Borrow, buy, or pull out the crock-pot.

Just go to the store, buy the pre diced Onion and Peppers, a can of diced tomato, and a can of Chili beans. No cooking there, just dump everything into the crock-pot with the meat and seasonings. 10 min top!

I would do simple finger foods with little or no prep work. How about a sandwich tray: Put out assorted breads and rolls, assorted meats, assorted cheeses, and assorted condiments. Throw together a tossed salad and one other type of side dish you enjoy making. Then have snack foods: cheese and crackers, veggie tray, fruit tray, and chips with dip. Make a simple dessert like brownies or a cake. Good luck!

Chips and Dips - Serve spinach dip, salsa, guacamole, onion dip, or hot artichoke dip with tortilla chips or pita bread cut into small triangles.
Cheese and Crackers - Serve a variety of crackers along with two or more cheeses.
Chicken (Teriyaki or Sate) - Serve on skewers with teriyaki or peanut sauce.
Baby Shrimp - Serve with cocktail sauce.
Chicken Wings - Especially popular with the men at couples showers, served with ranch dressing!
Meat Balls - make sure to serve the small variety.
Mini Pizzas - Everyone loves pizza, so when they're small enough to pop in your mouth, they go fast.

Prepare your favorite chicken salad the evening before. To save time you can use the meat from a roasted whole chicken that you can buy at many grocer's or bake your own. I always use bone-in, it is juicier and better flavor. Put the chicken salad in a bowl and set on a platter. Serve it with butter lettuce cups. It makes a very nice appetizer and is very light (leaves more room in your tummy for cake).......

A quick and good snack, get roast beef, asparagus, horseradish sauce. Just blanch the asparagus in boiling water, then take them out, spread a little horseradish on the roastbeef and then wrap the roastbeef around the aspargus.

My friend had one recently for her step-daughter. She made all types of "baby" food....baby carrots and dip, baby keish, that type of thing. Most of it was easy finger food and can be prepared or cleaned the night before.
