My paternal grandmother has type 1 diabetes, as well as two of my paternal great aunts. My maternal great uncle has type 1 diabetes. I have been tested a few years ago and came up negative, but very recently and suddenly, I have been drinking four to five cans of soda and sugary tea everyday, have been extrememly itchy, and am more prone to bumps and scrapes, as well as have been extremely tired and absent minded. Other than that, I am rather healthy. Am I jumping to conclusions? Am I getting older, or could I be diabetic? My father is tested every year and is NOT diabetic.

My family is a lot like yours. I just try to be tested every so often. If you are worried about it go get tested. It is a hereditary condition so you do have a really good chance of getting it.

If you don't mind my asking.. how old are you? But in any case, if its been over a yr since you were last tested, yes you should go again to get retested. I was recently diagnosed with diabetes (type 2) and my symptoms included, excessive thirst, having to go to the restroom all of the time (Especially at night), fatigue, absent mindedness, shaking, felt very "out of it", and had no energy to want to do anything (because I was soooo tired), and irritable. Yes, get tested, because diabetes left untreated can be dangerous, and if its not diabetes, then you need to figure out what is causing the symptoms, because they are all things that you should be careful of and monitor. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.

family history is a good reason to be concerned and to stay on top of check ups, but I believe I would be more concerned about your soda intake and all the caffiene that they contain, and itching could be a sign of dryness from the winter weather on your skin, try body lotion when you get out of the shower.

Go to your doctor. Get yourself checked out. You could be diabetic.
Better safe than sorry.

This does not sound like diabetes at all. Sound like you are getting hooked on soda and tea and getting older.
