When I was your age (long time ago) I had the same problems. I had cystitis for over 2 years and after 2 episodes of renal colic they at last took me into hospital. Under exam ( I had an anaesthetic) they found that I had a very small bladder with a tight end, so I never emptied it properly, therefore infection kept building up. I was washed out, discharged and have only had 1 episode of cystitis in 40 years. My point is, press for a proper examination by a Specialist who deals with bladders and kidneys, keep on at them, someone needs to give you an answer. Don't forget you must drink loads, a glass of water every hour if you can.

I think many of these people are confusing cystitis with UTI's. A UTI is an infection of the urinary tract. A urine sample would show bacteria.
Cystitis on the other hand would not. The problem is with the lining of the bladder becoming inflamed. Something like that. It's incurable, and since it's not an infection per se, I don't think it's something you could catch.
I would also recommend asking her more about it. Does she really mean cystitis, or does she mean UTI? It sounds like she's had this before, so I really wouldn't worry that you caused it.
I'll look it up and post a link. I think I have it and will soon be going to a urologist to find out for sure.
EDIT: My bad. It looks like it can indeed by used to describe a UTI. What I probably have is interstitial cystitis, which is NOT caused by bacteria.

Your first answer pretty much sums it up - its not an STD and trust me, you would know about it if you had it. The fact your in a new relationship suggests you are probably having a reasonable amount of sex.....
I get it quite a lot (god knows why - I sure as hell aint getting any - some people are just more susceptible to it!) Cranberry juice helps. I find it worth paying more for the pricier over the counter remedies - they can work within 24 hours which is a blessed relief when you feel like you have been needing a pee constantly for a week.

Cystitis is something some woman have to live with because of how we are built I am afraid. However it is possible you could have it and have passed in to your girlfriend. Men dont always seem to get symptoms but could still have the infection. It is not embarrassing, go to your doc, a simple exam is all that is needed and you could save youre girlfriend and lot of pain and discomfort (during which time she may not want 'it' with you, so its in your interests too). you dont even have to tell her.
As for 'not a terrible affliction' she obviously has not had it!!!! it can be very painful.

I Cystitis is very common but not a terrible affliction. Its not very comfortable but there again its not life threatening. However you could catch it from either one of these girls so avoid sex when your girlfriend is afflicted (can't see her wanting it anyway) and get yourself checked out every once in a while.
Cystitis is a reoccurring problem much like thrush or cold sores. Once you have the virus it can come back and back.

Women can get cystitis from agressive sex or frequent sex. It's just a symptom of bacteria being pushed up into the urethra. Be careful about being clean when having sex and don't do anal then vaginal sex.
I used to have this problem constantly with my ex, but I've never had it with my current boyfriend. I'm convinced that it's a cleanliness thing.

it's an infection that can be brought on by sex or other trauma to the urethra and closeby genitalia.... alot of girls are very prone to this and it can re-occur very easily. tell your girlfriend to take uva-ursi drops every day.... this helps both to treat and prevent cystitis. i have the same problem as your girlfriend, sex just makes it worse, but since i discovered this stuff i have had cystitis once!!!

Cystitis isn't an std, it's a bladder infection.
It is sometimes called the honeymooners disease, and can come about from deep, rigourous intercourse ( I think I heard somewhere!)
I don't think you can pass it from one person to another, it's fairly common so prob just a co-incidence.
Tell your girl that cranberry juice helps.

you don't say if you have any symptoms yourself so its impossible to say. iif you develop any problems passing urine get checked as it could be chlamydia. if you are using condoms it could be that your partners are reacting to them, or if you are having a lot of sex it could just be friction
