How could this affect their kidneys and liver?

Also could be fatty deposit in the liver causing it as that was the case with me. Weight lose normally clears it up if so and its not a lasting thing.

Take it serious. Get your kidney function checked out. Don't wait. If you have too much protein in your urine, it could mean that your kidneys are not functioning correctly. I had to give my brother a kidney two years ago because he suffered from complete kidney failure. So get it looked at. Good luck.

high blood sugar levels in diabetics causes narrowing of the kidneys filters...allowing the larger particles of protein to pass thru the filters into the urine. over time..excessive blood sugar levels will cause kidney failure.

I've heard of it being caused by UTI's as well.
