I'm hosting a brunch for 10 women and we've never met in person. Our one common thread is we are all women executives. Can anyone recommend a good ice breaker or lite discussion topic to kick off the event?

Al6517 –Although I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question I take offense to your “genetics” comment. I’ve NEVER attended a professional women’s networking event where the conversation turned to bashing men, or even personal relationships. That is highly unprofessional and inappropriate for this forum. The gathering you describe sounds more of a PTA singles’ mixer. I can only assume we socialize in very different circles.

My guess is that women executives already know how to "network". Maybe you are looking for something to move the conversation away from work life and into something more personal?

How about something like: "What's your favorite 80's movie?" or "If you could live in another time, when would you choose?"

If that flops, then they can all go back to discussing boardroom politics.

With all of you being professional women, make a mental note to remember their names it goes farther than you think. Then please whatever happens try to stay away from the man bashing that allways surfaces at these gatherings, because with that many woman in one room there are always a few who have been scorned. keeping it upbeat with topics about children, and family, holidays, and favorite books. I hope these help.

"I was a little nervous about meeting you ladies here today, so I was searching the web for ice breakers, when I realized that we really already know each other." Nodding toward an individual, "Mary or Ms. Smith or Mrs/Dr. Whatever is blah blah blah, Martha Jones is blah blah, Why don't we all take a moment to introduce ourselves to each other?"

I wouldn't worry about it. It's better to be spontaneous.
