Some people do not like it when you ask questions in a restaurant,is it because they feel guilty.?Some cafes and eating places do not tell the truth ,I simply do not have time for them.L J.C.

I've been vegetarian for about 15 years and I rarely have a problem in restaurants because I check places out to make sure there's something veggie on there, and I honestly can't remember the last time there was nothing for me, and I eat out at least once a week. Sometimes there isn't the choice you like, but most places are happy to do something else if you ask. The thing to do is to make it as easy on yourself as possible, which means educating yourself on food and drink so you know what is likely to be in things (French onion soup, for example- sounds veggie but is actually made with beef stock) and what sort of things are generally not going to be veggie (for example gorgeous looking cakes with glazed fruit on top because this is often just cheap gelatine-set jelly). It is also necessary to be flexible with what you want to eat- some types of cuisine are easier for vegetarians than others. Indian, Italian, Mexican, Greek/Turkish are all really easy because there are a lot of dishes that are vegetarian already in these cuisines. We should all be more flexible in what we eat- it's the easiest way to get a balanced diet. I think you have more choice anyway with veggie food- if you eat meat, your meal will have usually either chicken, beef, lamb, pork, turkey or fish as a rule, while if you're veggie your meal will usually have any of the tons and tons of different veggies out there. A good restaurant should have a menu that incorporates different diet choices- I wouldn't take my custom and spend my money at a restaurant that wasn't prepared to please its customers.

As far as the meat-eaters go, I have never been able to understand why this is an issue. If they're so curious about why you don't eat meat, then good. It means you have an opportunity to educate them on your choices, and the easiest way to do this is to explain that it's your choice not to eat meat, it's their choice to eat meat. If I have a dinner party I do meat for the meat-eaters and veggie for the veggies. I know some veggies would think cooking meat for other people was hypocritical but I choose not to eat meat for several reasons, not because I am against people eating animals per se- that is a short-sighted and ill-informed opinion. The way the majority of meat in this country (UK) is slaughtered and butchered is beyond revolting, in many ways. Animal treatment plays the largest part in my decision to be veggie, but fair pricing for farmers, environmental concerns such as food miles, pollution, and packaging, and also the hygiene and quality of meat all come into the equation. The reason I will cook meat in my own kitchen is because I buy meat from local suppliers, and make sure that meat is ethically traded and that the animal has been well-treated and humanely slaughtered. This is not difficult to do either because any decent butcher will give you this information, and the internet is heaving with websites of places that promote decent meat. I cannot talk about my right to choose to be veggie without respecting other people's right to choose to eat meat.

Making the commitment to be vegetarian is the biggest single thing you can personally do to improve the lives of animals that are destined for the meat market, and a balanced veggie diet is really healthy, and I hope this answer will encourage you to choose to continue with vegetarianism.

I'm 13 and after being non-vegetarian for my whole life i turned vegetarian about 8 months ago....my friends have actually taken my eample and turned vegetarian aswell but eating out is a big problem like when we go shopping, most salads available nowadays at fast food restaurants have chicken or ham in them...and i don't really like eating burgers. So i think that due to the growing population of vegetarians these fast food restaurants should introduce more vegetarian choices....not to mention they're a whole lot healthier aswell.

Me too, I sometimes wish I knew more vegetarians in real life, I know 3 and I'm the only vegan I know !! You have asked people to dinner as your personal guests, that is really rude of them to turn their noses up at dishes that you have prepared and put thought into. most omnivores I know will try veggie food and some of them like it enough to eat it often. Can I come for dinner? I am house trained, will bring some vegan wine and some excellent vegan brownies and Ice cream for desert !!
Keep waving the veggie flag !! (remember vegetarianism and veganism are becoming more and more popular !!)

I am non-veg when you consider that my mother and father have been non-veg. But now after I learn a declaration of LORD BUDHHA , I have practically stopped consuming non-veg. LORD BUDHA stated--- U have taken hundreds of thousands of rebirths in the world. So mostly those lambs or pigs or fowl have been ur father, mom uncles or kids. Why to consume flesh of ur mother and father and so forth.? Swami Ramdev explains -- When u get indignant , u begin sweating, begin trembling and so forth, while u are afraid , u begin sweating , trembling and so forth. Why ? Because there r secretions of harmones and so forth. within frame. So u can comprehend what number of dangerous secretions take situation while an animal is killed . Eating this type of flesh may be very dangerous for intellectual wellbeing. Now u see such a lot of swine/cow/fowl -flu and so forth are spreading because of animals. Moreover Nature has now not made us to consume non-veg. Because a non-veg consuming animal has very lengthy gut to digest it however v have small one. V should not have teeths like tiger. All non-veg eater animals drink water by way of tongue however v drink like cow.

i'm a vegetarian! and i know exactly how you feel, only one of my friends is a veggie and she lives on the other side of the country. having to explain that you don't eat meat all the time is annoying and people can be pretty critical and intolerant at times. it sucks, but what can you do?

I am a vegetarian ever since I was born. If they can't accept that you are a vegetarian then they aren't really good friends. There are really good vegetarian restaurants out there too. Most of them are chinese ones though. So umm.. Don't give up! [=

Do not let them get to you. My grandmother calls vegetarian food fake food. I hate when she says that, but I would never stop making vegetarian food. Some people just refuse to give up their ways to see why others live the way they do.

I don't eat any meat except chicken, but it's just because I don't like anything else. So my friends just call me picky and move on. If something has meat on it I just don't eat it. It shouldn't be an embarassing thing to ask if something has meat in it, and at a restraunt waiters/staff are supposed to be helpful so when you ask a question don't feel bad about it.
