Well as others have brought up already, SALT is NOT a spice, it is a necessary mineral. "Garlic power" is also NOT a spice any more than "onion powder" is!
Of course "black pepper" which is used practically the whole world over would have to be number one! But second place is a tough one. Without cheating and searching the whole net for three hours, I would have to guess that red chili pepper, cumin, coriander and cinnamon would have to be the likeliest candidates......

According to the answers on asnwerbag.com with good references, it seems pepper and cumin are the two most popular spices. By the by, salt is not a spice, and Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world.

It depends on the country. I know saffron is the most expensive spice in the world but I would probably say sal and pepper.
