It depends on the person. I've known people to function with blood pressure that high, but it if someone's blood pressure is that high, they should head to the ER immediately. BP that high puts them a high risk of stroke.

Unlikely, but never say never!

Think about the numbers. The top one (systolic) is the pressure exerted against the arteries when the ventricle contracts (pumps). The bottom one (diastolic) pressure against arteries when it's relaxed. If the pulse pressure (systolic-diastolic; normally around 40) is so narrow, how efficient do you think the person would be able to function? That and a diastolic of 163!

If you ever actually see this measurement, I recommend re-testing and re-testing, while talking to ambulance control!

Probably, but their risk of a heart attack or stroke would be very high. My blood pressure at one time was 169 / 119 which is considered fairly high. With medications, it is down to where it should be now. Although thin people can have high blood pressure, if a person is over-weight, excersise can usually bring it down somewhat .. also excluding salt from your meals and eating Garlic tabs help. Good Luck ! :)

They would probably need to walk very slowly - and even that, i'd find surprising with such a high blood pressure reading.

I would describe that person as a stroke waiting to happen. Those are very high numbers.
