Lead is no longer used in cans and hasn't been for many, many years. All cans today are made from aluminum. However, if you have an old can opener, some tiny slivers of aluminum may get into the food...usually, they are not large enough for you to even see and they pose no danger to you. I have a Krups can opener and I love it. It does not cut cans open but unfolds the seam and refolds it all in one motion as it opens the can. There are no sharp edges and nothing to all into the can since the fold is on the outside of the rim.
