A pap smear only tests for changes in cells on the cervix. This is a screening for cervical cancer.
A lot of research lately has shown that nearly all changes to cervical cells are related to HPV, which IS sexually transmitted... so in a round-a-bout way a pap does test for some strains of HPV. However, abnormal pap results aren't a definitive answer that someone has HPV and normal results aren't a surefire sign that she doesn't have any strains of HPV. (By the way, HPV is not the STD you should worry most about having. While it has been linked to cervical cancer most people with healthy immune systems clear up the infection on their own with out any treatment. With regular pap smears any cancerous changes to the cervix should be caught before they become life threatening.)

Many ob/gyns will test for some STDs at the same appointment that a pelvic exam is done. (Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are most commonly tested for in my experience.)
An HIV test is a separate test that you must request.
Ask your healthcare provider what your samples will be tested for. If you think you may be at risk for STDs get the tests done.
If you are sure that you cannot have any (you've never had any sort of sexual contact with anyone) discus that with the doctor/nurse and they likely won't test you for any STDs.

NO....a papsmere detects cervical cancer and other abnormalities. To find out if you are infected with an STD you have to have an STD test done, which is a totally different exam. Just because you have a yearly exam does not mean you are free of STD's. Thats a big misunderstanding that a lot of women have.

maximum STD checks that are performed in common words bump into when you're helpful for Trichamonas, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Yeast. It does no longer coach once you've HPV or HIV. A pap try or Pap Smear is a preventative attempt to study for cells that could want to factor out early indications of cervical maximum cancers or irregularities. that is how HPV is in many cases clinically determined. On that be conscious, when you're below 26y.o I advise you ask about the Gardisil Vaccine to help stay away from you from getting 7 of the major lines of HPV. once you've anymore questions, in basic terms provide me a buzz and that i'd be satisfied to help if i'll.

No, a PAP won't test for STDs. You need a separate test.

A PAP tests for abnormal cells in the cervix, which can be a precursor to cervical cancer. Some STDs can lead to abnormalities that might turn up on a PAP, but it's not a sure-fire test.

Some STDs have zero symptoms, so you should tell your doctor to test you for basic STDs at least once per year.

Do you mean "Pap smear test"?
The Pap test (sometimes called a Pap smear) is a way to examine cells collected from the cervix (the lower, narrow end of the uterus). The main purpose of the Pap test is to detect cancer or abnormal cells that may lead to cancer. It can also find noncancerous conditions, such as infection and inflammation.
In a pelvic exam, the uterus, vagina, ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, and rectum are felt to find any abnormality in their shape or size. During a pelvic exam, an instrument called a speculum is used to widen the vagina so that the upper portion of the vagina and the cervix can be seen.
Genital warts- A genital examination reveals flesh-colored to white, flat or raised, single or clustered lesions anywhere on the genitalia.
In women, a pelvic examination may reveal growths on the vaginal walls or the cervix. Magnification (colposcopy) may be used to see lesions invisible to the naked eye. The tissue of the vagina and cervix may be treated with acetic acid to make the warts visible. A pap smear may note changes associated with HPV.
Please see the web pages for more details on Pap smear.

Yes a pap smear test will show up any STD
When the test is done, there are routine things they look for, and an STD would be found.
If there is a fear you have an STD then best tell the doctor, because they also can then run special series of other tests at the same time.
Good luck
