I would suggest visiting the gp. If you were having a heart attack you would have probably had it by now. Chest pains can also be caused by the heart not receiving enough blood and oxygen such as with angina. It does seem like a long time if the pain is there all the time. It may just be nothing important. Go and get it checked out before the weekend as otherwise you'll queue for hours in a&e

EKGs are quick and painless. Your doctor won't even make you wait. You'll know very quickly if your heart is having problems.
Some things that cause chest pain besides your heart:
1. Ribs outta place. I suffered with chest pains for 6+ months after I wrenched a chest muscle while shoveling gravel. When the ribs were put back into place, the pain went away.
2. Gall Bladder. A gall bladder attack will give you chest pains (and nausea).
3. Pericarditis. This is an inflammation / infection of the lining around the heart. Very painful, and does produce bad EKGs since your heart is rubbing on that lining. It is not life-threatening, but will put you in the hospital for a day.
Go, get the EKG.

Have you been under a lot of stress lately? Usually you'll get a pain like that out of stress. Since you've had this pain for 24 hours, it's physiologically impossible(i think so anyway)that you experienced a panic attack. However, given the time frame you posted in your question, I'd go schedule a doctor's appointment pronto!

If you are serious about chest pain call and ambulance and have them take you to the hospital. DO not try to drive yourself in case something happens. Chest pain is not something to ignore for 24 hours.

It's a bit hard to diagnose with only this small amount of info. If the pain is radiating down your arm or causing a pins and needles senation in you hand or finger tips. You need to dial 999.
However, it be just a case of heartburn and an indigestion remedy will help.

Apart from all the other good advice you're getting, you may have experienced constricture of the intercostal muscles around the ribs.
This condition can be brought on by exertion and by stress. The best treatment is rest and sometimes, muscle relaxants.

i dont know if an mi would produce pain for 24hrs solid, it would be like someone squeezing you real tight till it causes a nasty tingly pain.
if it was a heart attack you'd be grey, sweating like a *****, tachypnoea, tachycardia, and pain usually radiates down your arms.
if it's pain on breathing you've proberly caused a mischief on your ribs or diaphragm.

My advice.........get to a hospital ASAP!!
While this is probably nothing more than heartburn (depending on your age), it could also be angina or an actual heart attack warning. Better to err on the side of caution, don't you think?
Good luck, and let us know what's happening!!!
