There has been another thread of this same question -- note that I feel the one voted "best" is not necessarily going to answer all that you are asking... but I hope this answer and the "other" answers underneath the "best" one, will point you in the right direction: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=1006042326093

BP is defined as pressure exerted by blood on the lateral walls of blood vessels. There are various standards of BP
110/70 normal, 120/80 pre hypertensive, 130/90 hypertensive, 140/100> Essential hypertension.
A healthy athletic heart rate is between 128 bpm to 150 bpm.
However one should not overdo, to increase HR unnecessarily as complications may occur, THIS IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

The heart is carrying oxygen to the muscles. As the muscles work harder so their demand for oxygen increases and the heart has to beat faster to supply that oxygen. Musles become tired when they are not receiving enough oxygen. An athlete's muscles uses oxygen more efficiently than someone who is unfit. The unfit person will then needed greater amounts of oxygen to feen tired muscles before the athlete.

someone who is not in shape does not have to work as hard to get their heart rate up. it's harder for them.

Athletes have conditioned their bodies to handle the work out. If I had to follow an athlete during his/her workout My heart and body would get tired MUCH faster than theirs. (trust me)
