Probably because you stop breathing in your sleep. You may have something called sleep apnea. You need a doctor to set up an overnight sleep study. I just had two done last year, there's nothing to them.

If you snore and are drowsy during the day, you should go to your doctor and see if you have a sleep disorder.

If you have apnea, snoring is a symptom of throat closure while you are sleeping. So, when your throat closes, it wakes you up because you can't breath. Apnea can be dealt with through weight loss, a positive pressure breathing machine, or an operation.

You might be able to deal with the problem just by training yourself to sleep in a position where you don't snore (like on your side, perhaps).

You should make an appointment for a sleep study. Sleep studies and insomnia clinics are becoming a huge part of medicine. Ask your general practitioner or if you don't have one call an oxygen supply company or contact a pulmonologist- any of those contacts will direct you in the correct direction. If someone lives with you ask them if you stop breathing while you are snoring. There are many serious health concerns associated with sleep apnea. Do you wake up tired? Take this seriously!

Because it disrupts your breathing, causes you to stop at times. And sometimes you can snore so loudly that you wake yourself up.We naturally need to breathe through our noses, thus not snoring but if you have an obstruction this is impossible and we breathe through our mouth which causes vibrations:snoring. Use the Breathe -rite strips first and if that doesn't work see an ENT.

It could be sleep apnea, a pretty serious thing. sometimes, when one snores, they may stop breathing for a moment, and this will often wake the person up. You may want to discuss this with your doctor and it really can be serious.

For one of two reasons. Either your snoring is so loud that it disturbs you while you sleep, or you are not getting enough air and the blocked nose or throat wakes you up.

Not all people wake up when they snore, but I do, I just never hear it. My mom and dad sleep right through it.
It's either because your air is getting cut off (though I don't know how)
Or
like the other peson said, your auditory system (or whatever its called) is still in function while your sleeping.

You probably do have sleep apnea. Talk to your doctor. There are things they can do to help you with this.
