First advise them to see a doctor. If they have sleep apnea, it can be a serious medical condition. If a doctor suspects this is not the case, he will usually recommend loosing weight. Even 5 or 10 pounds can make a big difference.

If weight is not the issue or not easily addressed, you may want to try earplugs. (Not for them, for you!) Seriously. This was a last resort for me and I wish I would have tried it a lot sooner. I am now able to sleep in the same bed with my very loud snoring spouse.

I understand this is a serious issue, but I must say I had to laugh at a few of the earlier answers.

Over the counter products don't work. Magnet trerapy doesn't work. We tried them all.

At the pharmacy they have nose strips that you can place on your nose that prevent a person from snoring. I think there is one called Snore Ez or something like that.

If it really annoyed you, I would suggest placing a plastic trash bag over the head of the individual and securing it snugly around the neck with duct tape.

You take a pillow and hit their head or throw stuffed animals at them. I do that to my sister and she would stop snoring! =)
