It wasnt so bad to brgin with except for the uncomfortable cough but that lasted only a day but then i woke up this morning and i was wheezing like crazy i havent been able to catch my breath all day, how long is this gonna last? ive been taking mucinex but i heard you have to drink alot of water for it to even have an effect? and im a smoker but im quitting thanks to this little bronchitis thing i cant breathe and smoking is just out of the question so im just gonna quit. but is it worse beause of being a smoker and when is it gonna go away or at least ease up? cause working in construction is not the easiest thing to do when you cant breathe and your lungs are wheezing! anybody no when this crap will stop?

I had it too, and I am a smoker also. Bronchitis is well known in smokers and if u keep smoking u will continue to get it over and over. My doctor gave me an inhaler which really helped and antibiotics which u must stay on till they are all gone. If u don't follow doctors orders it can turn into pneumonia, it can last for several weeks depending on how quick u caught it. Mine usually last about 2 weeks. so take care, get plenty of rest if possible, and good for u if u quit smoking.

I once suffered from Chronic Bronchitis. I would suffer sometimes 3 to 4 times per year! Usually when there was a major change in the pressure outside (I live in the north, and the temperature spikes and dips do wonders to chronic sufferers of bronchitis!). Each time I would get horrible hacking coughs, hoarking up green phlegm..it was so frustrating!

The key to getting rid of your bronchitis is to find a way to completely eliminate the germs that are causing all the phlegm and irritation leading to your hoarking cough and heavy breathing. Keep reading to learn how to do kill these germs!!

If you are short of breath it is really necessary to see a doc. I know it is a generic answer, but it applies in your case. Your smoking history combined with your age could be a determining factor in what is going on. You sound like a fella that doesn't care for docs...that;s fine. One tip when dealing with them is don't let them blow you off. Be assertive and don't let him/her back you down. If your visit is less than 2 minutes you got ripped off.

Not enough people do this when coming off of pneumonia or bronchitis, but ask the doc for an incentive spirometry device. You work out your biceps, you need to work out your lungs.

Bronchitis generally takes several days to clear up; given that you are a smoker, it may take longer than for a non-smoker. As a non-smoker, when I've had bronchitis, it would take about a week to really start getting better.

I just got over bronchitis. Mine lasted about a month. It sucks. Its hard to deal with. Take it easy, I played basketball the whole time and that didn't help.
