Does your sore throat go away after you wake up and get moving in the morning? If so, this is what is going on, I have had this problem myself. You are Congested, and at night when you sleep everything is draining to you stomach and lungs and then it just sits there. When you wake up in the morning, your throat hurts because everything drained down the back of your throat. Your coughing because now you trying to get rid of all the stuff that drained into your lungs. Simple solution is take something before you go to bed like, NyQuil or another sinus medicine, or a antihistamine this should help alot. If it does not you might have a sinus infection and may need some antibiotics. Hope you start feeling better.

You're breathing in unhumidified heated air will give you these symptoms. Use a humidifier or put a large open pan of water close to your bed at night and up your intake of water. When your bronchi dry out at night from the heated air, the mucous will become thick and collect bacteria. This will definitely cause bronchitis which is characterized by a dry cough. A good hot shower before bed (breathe in the moist air) will also help. Godloveya for asking an informative question!

Hi,
I had a coughing at night and not in the day thing when I was younger. Turned out it was very mild asthma. Maybe if you go to the doctor s\he could give you a mild inhaler and that might help as the coughing can in turn cause a sore throat. It might be totally wrong but go ask your doctor see what they say. Hope you feel better soon.

What you are describing sounds like it could be acid reflux. A common symptom is waking up with a sore throat and cough due to acid irritating the throat while you sleep. It would be a good idea to talk to your doctor about what medication and lifestyle changes are needed. Another possibility is that you are having sinus drainage while you sleep that is keeping your throat irritated. Do you have allergies? This also would be something to discuss with your doctor. Good luck.

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection . Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. More details and home remedies available at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

It could be something to do with your heating. If you use a gas fire then that could be causing it. Perhaps a side effect of medication? Milk causes phlegm to form in the throat also. I would get a carbon monoxide detector for your gas appliances.

The cough may be exercise induced asthma. Check with your health care provider. There is medication that can be used prior to running that will eliminate the cough.

it may be more environmental than medical. do you have a dusty house or anything? do you snore? cold dry air will dry out your throat and mouth so try getting a humidifier for your bedroom.
