How do you know this?? If he has seen a doctor then I'm sure it will be managed appropriately. If you just happen to feel the odd irregular beat, then this is perfectly normal in most people. If the beat is always irregular then get it checked out if you haven't already...there are many treatments available. Don't ignore it though...just don't panic because it isn't likely to be the end of the world.

The most common type of irregular heartbeat in a young fit male is called sinus arrhythmia. Basically the heart beats faster and slower inresponse to breathing in and out. this is totally harmless.

If you are worried or experience symptoms of fatigue, breathlessness, pain, blackouts, contact your doctor for an ECG. A quick painless look at the heartbeat

This could be a result of a faulty timing circuit in the heart. One cause of that condition can be corrected by a fairly simple surgery -- it involves using a catheter to attack some surplus material in the heart and does not require opening the chest cavity. It should be checked out by a specialist.

This can be normal (sinus arrhythmia), or if it is a fast rate could be atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter, both should be evaluated by an MD. If he is very athletic, this could be the cause. . .smoker? Drugs can also cause the heart to beat irregularly. In any case, it would be a good idea to see a doctor, especially if he gets light-headed or faint.

The causes and the effects are wideranging : from the innocent occasional extrasystoles to life threatening situations.

He needs to be examined by his doctor with an appropriate referral to a cardiologist, if indicated .

irregular heart beat can be something simple / benign or it can be dangerous...

In some people... heart rate fluctuates with the respiration... its simple to check... keep your fingers on his pulse and tell him to take a =deep breath and hold it.... if the rhythm of his heartbeat remains normal.... most probably it is NOT the dangerous one... it is called "Sinus Arrhythmia"....

If it keeps on to be irregular even on holding breath... then it could be something dangerous.. get an EKG and see a doc

It isnt necessarily serious eg some people have ectopic (extra) beats. He should get it checked though, and then you can find out if it is serious or not. It's better to know these things than worry.
