I am pretty sure that coughing up green mucus and coughing a lot is a sign of infection but should my child be held back from going to school or should he be able to go?

thanks for answers. Since it is infection and I should take him to the doctors, how long will this take to clear so he is able to go back to school? I hate him to miss too many days. He has already been out 3 days for being sick this year.

The golden rule for school nurses is that if there is a fever he stays home. Its cold season so there is no need to go crazy if its just a cough but if there are any other complaints you should call your pediatrician.

I guess if the cough is constant and he can sit still for 30 sec without hacking up then it may also be a good idea to keep him out since its pretty destracting to him and others.

If he has the fever and headache that go witht he sinus infection, probably not. Of course he isn't contagious, but how will the youngin learn anything if he feels like crap?

Would YOU feel like going to school/ work if YOU were that sick?

I used to get those often- Po kid!
Dose him up on theraflu or sudafed and motrin and a vaproizer couldn't hurt either! He probably needs antibiotics though if the mucus is green.

Good luck!

you have an infection. One of the best natural treatments is Wild Oil of Oregano. It works as well or better than anti-biotics. It is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, anti-viral and it has anti-spasmodic properties. Best of all, due to it's complexity, organisms don't become resistant to it, as they do with anti-biotics. I used it recently to clear up a throat infection - 2 droppers full per day for 1 week then 1 dropper full per day for another week. Be sure to get a brand that is at least 75% carvacrol (the active ingredient).

He should go to the doctor or hospital ASAP not school. If he has something contagious then he can spread it to others plus he can catch more stuff on top of what he already has.
Please take him to the doctor and make sure he is OK...

NO!

Would you want someone else's kid coughing up yellow and green crud eating luch with your son?

Think about all the other kids that will get what he has, and all their families.

nope, clear is fine. but green means infection. its flu season, so its about the right time to get it. he may have an upper respitory infection, or it may have gotten in his chest as well. i would suggest taking him to the peditrican today.
