Oh, I can help you here. There are TONS of great vegan sites that have great apple crisp.

Here they are:

Vegweb.com
Vegancooking.com
ThePPK.com

On all of these web sites, just type in "apple crisp", and you should get tons of recipes. Totally vegan!

I did a Yahoo! Search for "vegan apple crisp". This was one of the first that came up, and I think it looks yummy:
Apple crisp
8 apples sliced
Mix with:
1 T lemon juice
3 T sugar
Place in 9 x 13 pan
Top with mixed:
1 c b.sugar
1 c oats
1 c flour
2 t cinn,
¾ c vegan margarine
Bake: 350 around 60 min
TIPS
Great for breakfast or dessert!
Toss in other berries or fruit for some of the apple.
(Cranberries, raspberries, peaches, blueberries...)
--- I got this from www.veganwolf.com

I'm also sure that sites like veggieboards, veganforum, vegweb, etc. would have stuff, too. I'm on my SIL's computer (not at home), or I could better share some sites with you...

I hope Ive been some help. When I look for a vegan recipe, or something, I do things like type in "vegan banana bread" and find some interesting recipes and sites. I read more recipes than actually bake, though. LOL

I hope I've helped.

On a side note: I do eat honey and butter when it's the alternative to say, pure magrarine (Blue Bonnet, Country Crock, etc.) or corn syrup. (That's one of the things I don't like about IHOP-- Real butter and fake syrup; At least Cracker Barrell has Promise which isn't as good as Smart Balance or Earth Balance and real mapel syrup. But I digress.)

I'm sorry. Sometimes in life, there just is no substitute.

You can use whatever fake vegan replacement you want.... it's never going to taste like it should. The consistency will never be right. That is the plain, honest, truth.

That's the simple truth whether you are going light, low fat, diabetic, low carb, or vegan.

Instead of ruining a perfectly good apple crisp recipe, just find one designed for vegans, as one of the other answers did. That way all the ingredients work together to give you something with the intended outcome.

BTW.... microwaving (covered so they steam) apples with a little lemon jiuce, cinnamon and nutmeg on top, is pretty yummy. If you use something good for baking like macs or cortlands, it will be delicious. You can sprinkle oats or wheat germ or whatever you use on top for a bit of texture. They are yummy and they are not trying to 'be' something they are not. It's kind of like making pre-applesauce.

Good luck.

Geez, all the negative comments!!!

Replace the butter with Earthbalance margarine.
Replace the honey with Agave Nectar.

Both items are available at many 'regular' grocers and any decent health food store.

If you're not familiar with them Earthbalance is so close to cow butter that Alton wouldn't know he's eating margarine.

Agave Nectar *is* identical to bee honey! Well...some brands are left thinner than honey (since water is cheap) but you'll *never* find botulism or mold spores in Agave Nectar!

Most of these people do not know what they are talking about. They do put a shell around the apple and that wax IS in fact, made from the usage of insects. If you buy your apples from a farmer's market or buy them organic, you should be okay.

Golden or maple syrup and vegan margarine will be roughly the same. If you need something with the same hard consistency as butter then try pure plant ghee. I thought all ghee came from plants but I once found one with animal fats from butter in it, so best to check. (mind you I found it on the 'expensive shelf' in Sainsbury's next to some truffle pate) Hope they taste nice !!!

Use Maple syrup & vegan margarine in place of those products.

Non-dairy soy margarine in place of butter, and rice syrup in place of honey. I recommend the one you can buy at veganstore.com.

WHAT THE PICKLES? ok and bee's they produce natural honey... it's a gift... just take it... enjoy... milk is good for you... milk does a body good... cows love giving milk.. that's why the tities on the are for.
