There are several different soy/tofu cheeses available, but so far the only one I really like is from Vegan Gourmet. It is available in Cheddar, Mozzarella, Nacho Cheese and Monterey Jack. These don't taste nasty, and melt pretty well. You can find them at many natural foods stores, or online. http://www.imearthkind.com/

There is soy cheese. Some versions, particularly Tofutti's various soy cheeses, can be found in regular grocery stores with the meat substitute "cold cuts" and soy hotdogs. You can also find soy cheese in groceries that carry a wider variety of healthier offerings such as Whole Foods, Wild Oats and Trader Joes, or in local stores that cater to vegetarians and vegans.

Be warned, however: soy cheese is not necessarily the tastiest vegan food out there. It's an acquired taste, so purchase in small quantities unless you know that you like it.

Cheese is coagulated, aged, milk. Tofu is coagulated soy. The link makes it clear that cheese is the most God awful stuff in the world, except, in my opinion, the things down the page that are supposed to substitute for cheese. Nobody who believes the top would introduce the various molds, etc., used to make cheese into the pristine wonderfulness of tofu and then let it age as cheese is aged.

I love Mellisa's (but some of it it has eggs in it) you can get it at walmart

they have others at healthfood stores or some uper scale grocery stores ( ie Bruno's) with a wider selection of foods.

The kinds I've had are very good! But best melted.

Also if you google "soy chese" "tofu cheese" "fake cheese" "faux cheese" etc... you'll get a lot more ideas =)

Yes, there is plastic, er I mean soy and tofu cheese. It can be found at large chain supermarkets and some smaller grocery chains and a few independent grocers, but why bother. Unless, of course you're lactose intolerant. Usually in with the other dairy, or produce. Don't ask me for brand names.

Most medium to large grocery stores (yes the regular ones, not the health food kind) carry at least some, and many carry a decent variety. Even a super walmart would have a bit.
