It's not the meds/antibiotics that make your BG high, it's the INFECTION (although some prescrptions like steroids DO raise BG).

You need to work with your doctor to try and eliminate as many high BG levels as you can. This is potentially very damaging to the fetus.

Pregnancy can also raise BG levels, so an infection adds to the high BG mix.

Make sure you are testing often and taking fast acting Humalog to bring down highs ASAP. BG levels should be kept in normal range as much as possible. This will increase your risk of lows (especially if you are Type 1), but it is necessary to protect the baby from birth defects and ensure the baby does not grow too large, which can complicate delivery.

You need to have a high risk pregnancy specialist and a diabetes care team. They can help you answer all of these questions.

Good luck!

well, maybe you are a candidate for Gestational diabetes.Nowadays, it is protocol for pregnant women (especially those who have history of Diabetes in the family) to undergo blood test particularly OGTT or Oral glucose test to know if they are at risk of Pregnancy diabetes. This will help your OB to manage your preganancy and whatever it is that your baby needs. In your case, you should ask your docotr about it. Hope this helps.God bless

People with diabetes taking amoxicillin should know that this drug may cause a false-positive sugar reaction with a Clinitest urine glucose test. To avoid this problem while taking amoxicillin, you should switch to Clinistix or Tes-Tape to test your urine for sugar.
