Chlamydia commonly has no symptoms at all, so if someone fears they may have been exposed, it is important to get checked. The good news is that since it is a bacterial infection, it is treatable by antibiotics. It is so important to get checked because if left untreated chlamydia can lead to infertility by destroying the fallopian tubes to the point that fertilization can not occur in them. Antibiotics it the only way to get rid of it!

If your friend thought she had chlamydia for 4 years, she would most likely be sterile. The bacteria will ruin her organs. It would not show up on a pap test. This test takes cells from your cervix to look for cancerous cells. If she had an abnormal test, it means she had abnormal cells. It could mean she also had HPV which is the virus that causes most cervical cancers. She needs a culture to test for chlamydia.

going untreated can later affect a pap smear. She needs to consult her doctor, as to what the next step should be.
